An opportunity has arisen for a graduate to join a forward thinking Employment Law Practice. The post is open to those who have successfully completed the Legal Practice Course or who are intending to embark on the LPC by distance learning. The role has an emphasis in the management of an Employment Tribunal caseload, as well as other employment law practice areas, sufficient to comply with training requirements. It is envisaged that the role will be for a 2 year period, in line with Law Society requirements, and continued employment as a qualified solicitor on conclusion of training is a definite possibility.

Key tasks

  • Comply with the procedures and standards  and with any and all relevant or appropriate professional and training standards, keeping a proper record of work done and training received
  • Carry out all reasonable instructions from senior staff promptly and enthusiastically
  • Undertake fee earning work under supervision. In particular:

o Assist the solicitors in the delivery of employment law     advice to clients

o Draft and amend employment contracts and procedures

o Draft Tribunal documentation

o Draft settlement agreements

o Attend routine directions/interlocutory hearings at Tribunals

o Proof reading

o Client interaction, remote and in person

o Research

o Draft slides and notes for marketing and training presentations

  • Deal wherever possible with client and third party enquiries and communications
  • Manage the collation of an Employment Tribunal spreadsheet and other work dashboards
  • Deputise for principals in their absence, passing urgent issues to another senior fee earner for guidance
  • Ensure that client matter files are kept up to date with correspondence and documents
  • Assist in the administration of sister businesses, for example Occupational Health
  • Participate in the Firm’s marketing and networking strategies as directed

Person specification

Candidates must be or have:

  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree from a reputable university
  • A strong desire to learn, with particular interest in employment law
  • A high standard of spoken and written English
  • Enthusiastic and ambitious
  • Hardworking
  • Organised
  • The ability to complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly
  • A cheerful personality
  • Adaptable and accommodating
  • A smart and tidy appearance
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • IT competent, particularly with reference to the use of Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • A driving licence and own vehicle
